Smart Room RFID Technology to be Used by Whitby Fire. WFES runs a compliment of 124 full-time firefighters. This enables the department to operate four frontline pumpers, a frontline aerial, a frontline rescue (cross-staffed with Pumper 35) and a Platoon Chief. Spare pumpers 36/37/38/39 are also staffed when call-backs are required. The department also has a training division (3 staff), fire prevention division (7 staff) and administration & logistics (4.5 staff). Command personnel consist of a chief and two deputies – one for operations and training, the other for prevention and asset management.

Whitby Fire Department uses the Intelliview solution by Silent Partner Technologies to keep track of medical supplies. This is done at the main logistics storage area with a handheld RFID device and used for replenishment purposes. At the outlying stations “smart shelves” are being utilized for real time inventory tracking and replenishment. With the automation Intelliview provides Whitby Fire Department personnel can focus on other tasks which require more attention and precision. Future plans for Whitby are to incorporate smart shelves at each station for full visibility across their entire enterprise.
